What is Reflexology?

Sam Freeman M.A.R - Member of the Association of ReflexologistsSam Freeman is a member of the Association of Reflexologists - click here to visit their website!Reflexology is a massage technique which works on the premise that specific areas of the body correspond with areas of the feet. It is based on the principle that congestion or tension in any part of the body is mirrored in its corresponding part of the foot. The reflexologist can detect any bodily imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points, can heal itself. Reflexology is holistic in its approach as it heals the whole person and not just the illness or disease.

THE HISTORY
The technique was known some 5000 years ago by the Chinese, Indians and Ancient Egyptians. More recently in 1913 it was introduced to America by an ear, nose and throat specialist as ‘Zone Therapy’. Over the years this has been further developed and refined in to what is now know as foot reflexology.

DOES IT TICKLE?
Surprisingly not, the foot is not stroked but a firm pressure is put on each reflex point.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

  • Induces deep relaxation

  • reduces stress - the cause of 80% of all disorders

  • improves circulation

  • detoxifies the body

  • balances the body’s systems

  • revitalises energy

  • and acts as preventative health care, it can also improve the effectiveness of conventional medicine.

WHAT CAN IT TREAT?
Although not a ‘cure all’ it can help a wide range of disorders including stress, headaches, backaches, sports injuries, PMS, digestive problems etc.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS
WITH THE TREATMENT?

Since there are no drugs being used there are NO SIDE EFFECTS, however, there may be a healing crisis where the discomfort may become worse before getting better.

Therefore, it is important to tell your reflexologist how you are feeling after each treatment as it shows how your body is responding to the treatment.

What does our service consists of?

Your first treatment takes about 90 minutes. I consult with you to establish your general health and the nature of any problems.

Following this consultation, I carefully work on your feet, noting problem areas. There may be a slight discomfort in some places which would indicate congestion or imbalance in the corresponding part of the body. Reflexology relaxes the recipient while stimulating the body’s own healing mechanisms.

The treatment lasts about an hour. A course of treatments varies in length depending on your body’s need.
